Dear blog reader,

Seeing as I’ve moved onto my mfa, this bfa specific blog won’t be updated.  Instead you should check out my new blog.  It has just as many pretty pictures, plus what I’m currently working on at RISD.

Installation

Amazingly the time has come to install.  My monitors are all set up, and look great.  I’m having some trouble with getting enough power, but that should be solved rather easily (and hopefully elegantly).  I have images from the install, my camera took a picture every 5 minutes.  I haven’t looked over the pictures yet, and likely many of them show a lull in progress being made.  The install took longer than expected, but I’m pleased with how it looks.

As a side note, google is dead to me.  When you used to type in “Colin Williams” I was the top result.  That made me happy.  Now I’m the 5th result.  What gives google?  Did I suddenly become less interesting?  Until further notice, I will only use searchme.com.  It’s far more spiffy.  Although I think I’m the 10th result on searchme…  Hmm.

The Rhode Island School of Design.

Dear Friend,

Exciting news. I’ve been accepted into risd. I’ll be attending in the fall. Kind of wish I had a year off, but an opportunity like this can’t really wait.

Here is some eye candy, an illustration I created over the past 3 days.

The original:

Plush Leeroy

A significant amount of progress has been made on the plush Leeroy. He should hopefully be finished next weekend. Additionally, the animation is being finalized
Exciting stuff

Leeroy + risd news

The plush version of Leeroy is beginning to take shape. After many considerations, I believe he will be made out of a weather balloon. I have a backup plan which involves fiberglass poles that would work similarly to how tent poles work. A (hopefully) great deal of progress will be made this weekend.
The television version hasn’t changed a great deal from the previous picture. I need to work out the animation…

And I finally heard back from risd. I’m on their waiting list which they claim is a short list. Not bad I guess. Better than a flat out rejection, especially considering I turned in my app after the deadline. If I don’t get accepted, I’ll try again next year.

Believe it or not, this will be my first post without an image. That’s weird.

To risd,

with love.

Leeroy tee-vee.

What I have for you is a test shot.  Don’t get too excited, because things may change.

Additionally, I just bought 40 yards of truck headliner fabric.  Should be fun.

The plan.

My piece is beginning to take shape. Without giving too much away before it’s good and ready, here’s an image proposing my spacial needs for the gallery. It’s going to be big.gallery-plans.png

Michael Salter: Are You Sure

The real reason Justin and I went to New York was to help Michael Salter set up his first solo show in New York. It’s at Jeff Bailey Gallery in Chelsea and runs through February 9th, 2008. Here are some images from the show.
